Lectures on Corporate Governance, Family Ownership, Audit Fees and Auditors Choice in Bangladesh

Date: August 17, 2015

I am very pleased to inform you that Dr. Javed Siddiqui, Associate Professor of Accounting in the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK, is one of our distinguished resource persons in this training program. He has kindly agreed to share with you two research papers which Dr. Javed co-authored with his colleagues Dr. Arifur Khan and Dr. Mohammad Badrul Muttakin of Deakin University Australia.

  1. Khan, A., Muttakin, M. B., Siddiqui, J., 2013. Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosures: Evidence from an Emerging Market Economy. Journal of Business Ethics 114: 207-223.

  2. Khan, A., Muttakin, M. B., Siddiqui, J., 2015. Audit Fees, Auditor Choice and Stakeholder Influence: Evidence from a Family-firm Dominated Economy. The British Accounting Review: 1-17.

Please note that Dr. Siddiqui is now visiting Bangladesh and scheduled to leave Bangladesh on August 25th. I will therefore earnestly request you to combine into one "Friday Batch" and attend his lectures on this Friday, August 21, 2015. The planned topic titled "Determinants of P/E and P/B Multiples and their Relevance for Investment Decisions" is thus postponed. Our primary motivation is that you get an opportunity to hear both the research presentations. The first paper, published in Journal of Business Ethics, will focus on institutional mechanism of corporate governance in Bangladesh and on the relationship between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility disclosures in corporate annual reports. The other paper which is just published in the British Accounting Review will focus on the effect of family control and ownership on audit pricing and auditor choice in Bangladesh. Both the paper bear enormous policy implications for investors and policy makers. Our timing is as usual, i.e., 09:00-12:00. Please note that venue will be the Faculty Conference Hall, Faculty of Business Studies.
